The association recently received a "First Mass of remembrance", given by a family of Kaysersberg through Lichtlé Mr Francis whom we thank.
A framework of 41 cm square contains a piece of pearl set in the middle of a wreath of fabric flowers. It was the custom styling of the newly ordained priests, at their first Mass celebrated mostly in their village or town of origin of such a crown.
The originality of this first Mass of remembrance is the central object: You can find quite often embroidered pieces, but the pearl is unique. The plate is perforated on its curved edges, embossed on its surface: we see the resurrection of Christ, more accurately Christ leaving the tomb, two women on the left watching the scene, a soldier asleep taking place at the back on the right.
The pearl has probably been offered to the young priest. Such pieces were crafted in the Holy Land, but also in Greece and Spain, Britain, ultimately on all coasts where there is the raw material.
