It is not uncommon to find in Alsace images of pilgrimage Walldürn, though distant 200 km from Strasbourg. It is located in Baden-Württemberg in the district of Neckar-Odenwald, south-west of Wertheim.
is not going to honor supposed relics back to the origins of Christianity as the Holy Tunic of Argenteuil or Trier, the Shroud of Besancon, the robe of the Virgin at Aix-la-Chapelle ... but to make a pilgrimage erected following a Eucharistic miracle, as there are others (Bois-Seigneur Isaac Faverney, Lanciano, ...). The miracle
dates back to 1330, when a priest had accidentally spilled his cup with wine, already devoted spread on the corporal, and immediately formed a curious composition found images: Christ crucified without the cross, surrounded by 11 heads of Christ like those seen on Veronica's veil. Horrified, the priest hid under the corporal and the altar stone and did not reveal the hiding the fact that on his deathbed.
In 1445, Pope Eugene IV granted a bull of indulgences in the pilgrimage of the "miracle of the blood", which gave the place more attractive.
The corporal, mounted in a silver reliquary in the seventeenth century, found a place on a baroque altar erected in the eighteenth century.
The oldest graphic representation is contained in a pamphlet from 1589 which tells the "origin and progress" of the pilgrimage (De Ortu and sacrae Waltdurensis Peregrinationis progressu). The image, clumsily engraved wood is held by two angels.

addition to religious images, known in Alsace a monumental representation of the miracle of Walldürn to Morschwiller (near Haguenau): instead of a roadside cross is a Bildstock 2.70 m high, which shows carved in low relief, composition miraculous pilgrimage evokes the registration done in 1836 by the sponsor of the monument.
