I am a "big" fan of the Klaxons , then logically it hurts their spit. Yet, our history began well in 2007 with their debut album, Myths Of The Near Future gives me a few more chills when I fall over. This album (and their authors) had been proclaimed spearheading a new musical style born in the United Kingdom that had qualified for the NME New Rave (spelled nu rave ), their most famous followers being Cansei de Ser Sexy (aka CSS) and Hadouken! . They get the Mercury Prize, is considered the revelation scene of the year, follows logically tour (where they provide, among other things, the first part of the special concert Daft Punk Bercy ), their passage to Nantes ... and my first concert at the same time. Tubes in their march every evening from Golden Skans to As Above, So Below (and its French version and its remix by Justice), but no matter, the group never will be taxed "listened too". The group continues its momentum, blogs call it a forgotten, but they are not idle: their record company systematically denied each of their proposals, changes in the producer environment. The recording of the album is tedious, but here it is completed with the help of Ross Robinson, producer of lovely folk bands softly (yes, the irony) ; as Korn, Slipknot or Sepultura . Then exits Flashover , small bomb which one feels that the Klaxons have aged. The cover is revealed, I find it perfect, I am the pouch 2010, at least for the moment! Then it's very decent single Echoes comes out, accompanied by a clip mochemochemoche . Thus began the long wait until August 23 (or up to twenty others ...) , release date of the album.
And here it is. Fresh, ready to be heard. First listen, I have no doubt this album is very very (very) strong. He presents the foundations of the first game zero, share of trips without forgetting completely barred efficiency, a cocktail very dancing in the end. But soon, the songs are running out, and we realize that the album is actually completely empty. While few good songs stand out, others are very large and bad press in the album, which quickly becomes unlistenable. What is the problem? Answer ...

Surfing The Void started yet not so bad, that is to say it began with Echoes already heard here and there, and find that its not entirely unknown is reassuring. It is well recognized is the Klaxons . But by the second song, there is concern. The Same Space is extremely repetitive and is found to be particularly boring, despite its constant agitation and fatigue, which is nothing compared to the intro of Surfing The Void . It stands out, it's more due to (because of ...) its noisy moments quickly unbearable. The chorus shouted by the shrill voice of Jamie helpful in nothing, and it is difficult to bear listening to his song in its entirety. Valley of the calm trees is the only song whose words do not go too in a space-mystic delirium, which has the merit of being based .. . unlike the chorus, which again is very unpleasant. Venusia / Venusha is less unpleasant, it is among the "best" songs from the album, but I have yet to determine whether it was because of the inevitable comparison with its neighboring atrocious or if it was real quality. Anyway, her chorus is catchy and the lyrics may be less intolerable than elsewhere. Extra Astronomical assumes, his profound immaturity (or at least it seems) every note is useless, blurred, indescribable, incomprehensible singing is reduced to sound more or less distinct: an atrocity. Twin Flames starts better, even if we feel there too soon the frantic side takes them every time. Ultimately, the song is inexplicably bland. I preferred when the song was bad, actually. We found a little smile from the intro to Flashover , and this time, preceded by dull Twin Flames, it is really effective, though it loses a bit of bite it had when it was played alone, because sometimes preceded by twenty-five minutes of overdose of mush. Future Memories begins in a good momentum, but the refrain in canon is too daunting to make it possible to reach until the end of the song. Which is a shame since the next Cypherspeed , is far better. I would say it is the worst: no rhythm, distortion used indiscriminately, singing crushed under it-don't-know-what too: it is actually the summary of the album: loud, hollow, unbearable.
Surfing the Void is the album he should avoid this year, ten songs too excited, a sort of kneaded dough too, informs a magma, a boil hollow and noisy.
(As they say in the trade that's done.
In fact, I'm still quite proud to have spit on this pretty crap. For once I do not agree with the NME or Pitchfork, which give them generous respectively 8 and 7.2. Disagree with the Inrocks either way.)
